GEMIMA DIAMONDS

Gemima is a diamond connoisseur, with an exceptional eye for detail. Her perfectionist attitude towards diamonds leaves no room for error. From the suppliers we source from to the elegance of the stones proportions on the hand. Here diamonds don’t ask for attention, they demand it.

Diamonds have their own International language created by GIA. There are 4 categories (The 4Cs, cut, colour, clarity & carat) which a diamond is graded against, the result reflects the rarity and price of the stone in todays modern market. Ultimately, the higher each grade the higher the value. Gemima graduated as a GIA gemmologist in 2014 before going on to buy diamonds for private clients all over the globe. In addition to the 4cs Gemima created her own deeper detailed checklist titled ‘The Gem Code’ to truly refine the industry for her private commissions.

Gemima Diamonds the 4cs

cut

The cut of the diamond is possibly the most important ‘C’ in the grading of any stone. It not only refers to the ‘shape’ but the depth, symmetry, and proportions, resulting in how the diamond reflects light - ultimately giving us that outrageous fire & sparkle we desire. Gemima adores a fancy cut, (any shape that is not round) and specialises in unearthing old mine cuts and diamonds with rare character.

colour

The colour of a diamond is graded from D (colourless) to Z. As you move down the scale the stone becomes more saturated, sometimes with romantically alluring champagne or lemon yellow hues. The colour selection of a stone is down to personal preference, like painting your kitchen, colours can look different in different settings, making it a category to be played with if a budget is in question.

Fancy colours, our pinks and blues, are graded entirely in their own category, one which Gemima specialises in.

Clarity

Picture the finest swimming pool you’ve ever seen, totally clear scintillating in the sun, thats our highest grade of diamond, perfectly clean, Flawless even. Like most pools though, there's often a leaf or too floating around. They’re still desirable and often more characterful and alluring. Diamond clarity is about how visible these inclusions (leafs & bugs) are under 10x magnification. How many there are, where they are, and how noticeable they might be... We did say we do diamonds differently.

Carat

Simply, Carat is how much a diamond weighs on the scales. It does not take into consideration the stones spread, depth, proportions or personality. The higher the carat weight, the larger the rough diamond was in the earth, and the larger the rough the rarer the diamond.

Carat (CT) is different to Karat (K or Kt) which is how jewellers grade the purity of gold.
